If you have visited the West Valley before, you have probably checked a few things off of your list that a local deemed typical and/or fun for visitors. Things like checking out a game at University of Phoenix Stadium, going to the Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium, popular restaurants, etc.
We would argue that it’s way more fun experiencing things that aren’t necessarily “on the map” or the most popular. Hence, we give you a list of unexpected things to check off of your list whether you’re simply visiting or thinking about moving to the West Valley.
The Wigwam Resort
A resort? Yes, we mean it. The Wigwam has been around for over 100 years and is guaranteed to have something for everyone. Regardless of you choosing to book lodging here or not, there is a list of fun things to do while you’re there. Their website breaks down the array of activities they sponsor by the season. Some Winter activities include: Wigwam Wine Dinner Series, Paint Nite (wine included), Fireside S’mores, and Arts in the Park. In the Spring and Summer, participate in Family Days, foot golf, regular golf, laying poolside (dj included), Easter festivities, Mother’s Day Brunch and more. With all things offered at the resort, one could show up with a date for a unique night, with a group of friends to lay poolside with, or with the whole family.
Who wouldn’t love to spend the day on a farm? Combined with the ever-relenting sunshine of Arizona, this local farm also has a few things to enjoy. During their season, the farm runs a produce stand where you can drop by and pick fresh fruits and veggies that they’ve grown themselves. During the Fall, there is a corn maze set up along with a pumpkin patch, as well as a petting zoo. That’s not all–around Christmas time, there are Christmas trees to pick as well as a farmer’s market. Odds are, once you visit the farm, you will likely be back for more.
Arizona Broadway Theatre
Enjoy a show-specific menu as you settle in to watch a spectacular performance. Yes, each show is given a specific menu for you to savor. As an example and teaser, An American in Paris Menu offers appetizers such as a charcuterie and fromage board, duck confit & flatbread, and crab cakes. A few of the entrees include a chunky vegan ratatouille, beef goulash, and lemon mustard salmon. As if the menu doesn’t convince you to bring your date to a show, the performances and shows in general are sure to blow you away. Some of their popular main stage acts include: Mama Mia!, Elf, The Little Mermaid, and Bonnie & Clyde.
Paddleboard Yoga on Lake Pleasant
Beginner yoga students are welcome to give this 60-minute class a go while an instructor snaps photos throughout. If you’ve practiced yoga before, you are likely aware of the many benefits offered with each class and can probably imagine yourself taking it to the next level. If this doesn’t suit you, Kayaking and regular Paddleboarding are offered on the lake as well by GoPaddleAz.
Peoria Park District
Taking a class at the Peoria Park District is an activity you can do alone, or attend with a group. They offer environmental education programs, fishing trips, fitness training, and even dance classes. If you’re not feeling like taking a class, Luthy Botanical Gardens is close by and offers 5 acres of garden tours, floral shows, 15 theme gardens, and a tropical conservatory for your enjoyment.
Winery 101 is family owned and operated by winemakers Irlyn and Gavin of Peoria. These two started making wines in 2008 and now offer 20 different varieties and 2 lines of wine at their tasting room. They welcome individuals and groups to book private events, stop by for a tasting, or just enjoy a glass and wine down. They even host paint and sip nites on Sunday afternoons.
